Sr. Microsoft Administrator and Network Engineer
This is either an on-site or hybrid role in Columbus, Ohio
The Sr. Microsoft Administrator and Network Engineer will serve as the primary technical owner for Microsoft infrastructure, network environments, and desktop support. This includes deep administration of Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Entra ID), Windows Server, Active Directory, Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions, network design and management (firewalls, switches, VPN, wireless), Azure infrastructure, and end-user desktop/laptop support. Reporting into the EVP of Data and IT and collaborating closely with data engineering, application teams, cybersecurity, operations, field teams, and business stakeholders, this role translates infrastructure and support needs into actionable solutions, leads technical execution, provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 support, and ensures high availability, security, performance, and excellent end-user experience across all Microsoft and network systems.
We seek a proactive, hands-on, execution-oriented senior engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, enterprise networking, and desktop support, strong troubleshooting and project delivery skills, and a focus on delivering secure, reliable, and scalable technology solutions in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Microsoft Platform Administration & Infrastructure Management
Own the administration, configuration, optimization, and security of the Microsoft 365 tenant, including Exchange Online, Microsoft 365 Business Standard, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Entra, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Defender for Office 365, Power Automate, and related licensing and feature management
Manage Windows Server environments (on-premise and Azure VMs), Active Directory (domain services, Group Policy, OU structure), hybrid identity, and Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions (Entra ID, SAML, OAuth, and federation)
Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure including firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto), switches, routers, VPN, SD-WAN, wireless networks, and site-to-site connectivity
Lead Microsoft and network-related projects including migrations, system upgrades, security enhancements, Active Directory modernization, SSO implementations, and infrastructure optimization
Network Engineering, Desktop Support & Security
Ensure high availability, performance, and security of LAN, WAN, and remote access solutions supporting office, contact center, and field operations
Provide Tier 2 desktop support for Windows endpoints, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices, including imaging, deployment, troubleshooting, and user assistance
Implement and monitor network security controls, segmentation, threat detection, and compliance with cybersecurity best practices
Troubleshoot complex network, Microsoft platform, and desktop issues (including Teams, Active Directory, SSO, and end-user hardware/software problems), perform root cause analysis, and implement permanent solutions
Manage patching, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes for Microsoft, network, and desktop infrastructure
Support, Escalation & Optimization
Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support and escalation for Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, Single Sign-On, Teams, network, desktop/laptop issues, and infrastructure-related helpdesk tickets
Assist with Tier 2 incident resolution for end-user desktop support, mentoring junior team members or helpdesk staff, and ensuring timely escalation to Tier 3 or vendors when needed
Monitor system performance, capacity, licensing utilization (e.g., Microsoft 365 Business Standard, Teams Premium, Intune, Copilot), and security posture using tools such as Microsoft Defender, Azure Monitor, and network monitoring solutions
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, strengthen security, lower costs, improve Microsoft Teams adoption and user experience, optimize Active Directory and SSO configurations, and enhance desktop support efficiency
Maintain accurate documentation including network diagrams, system configurations, Active Directory topology, SSO architecture, desktop imaging standards, runbooks, and best practices
Requirements Gathering, Collaboration & Project Delivery
Partner with business stakeholders, application owners, and the Data & IT team to gather requirements, scope infrastructure and desktop support needs, and deliver solutions that support business operations and growth
Lead technical design sessions and provide expert guidance on Microsoft 365 architecture, Microsoft Teams deployment and governance, Active Directory strategy, Single Sign-On implementations, network design, cloud adoption, desktop deployment strategies, and security strategies
Collaborate with data engineering, BI, application, and helpdesk teams to resolve escalated issues and ensure seamless integration between systems
Analytics to Report/Maintain
Delivery & Execution: Project completion rates, system uptime/availability (target 99.9%+), ticket resolution times for Tier 2 and Tier 3
Security & Compliance: Security incident trends, patch compliance rates, audit findings closure, MFA/Conditional Access/SSO adoption
Performance & Optimization: Network performance metrics, Microsoft 365 licensing utilization (Exchange, Teams, Intune, Copilot, etc.), desktop support efficiency, license optimization, Active Directory health, cost savings initiatives
Support & Reliability: Mean time to resolution (MTTR) for Tier 2 and Tier 3 incidents (including desktop support), recurring issue trends (especially Active Directory, Teams, SSO, and desktop), stakeholder and end-user satisfaction scores
Overall: Monthly infrastructure and desktop support health trends, major incident summaries, and value delivered through modernization efforts
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
7+ years of hands-on experience as a Microsoft Administrator, Network Engineer, and/or Desktop Support Engineer in enterprise environments
Deep expertise in Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, Teams variants, SharePoint, Intune, Entra ID, Copilot, Defender), Windows Server, Active Directory, hybrid identity, and Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions
Strong experience with enterprise networking technologies: firewalls, switches, routers, VPN, wireless, SD-WAN, and network security best practices
Hands-on experience with desktop support, Windows endpoint management, device imaging, Intune deployment, and end-user troubleshooting
Proficiency with Azure infrastructure (IaaS, networking, identity), PowerShell scripting, and automation tools
Experience with Microsoft Teams governance, telephony, and advanced features is highly desired
Experience providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 support, mentoring junior staff, project leadership, and ITIL or similar frameworks is strongly preferred
Familiarity with compliance standards (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA) and cybersecurity frameworks is a plus
Strong business acumen with preferred exposure to Home Improvement, Field Services, Home Services, Contact Centers, or similar industries
Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
